In the late 1960s, both Porsche and Volkswagen needed a new model. On the Porsche side, the 911 had been on the market since 1964, but it was much more expensive than the 356, its predecessor. As for Volkswagen, the Karmann Ghia is coming to the end of its career and a cheap and sporty replacement has to be found.
The existing links between Volkswagen and Porsche being historically strong, it is thus natural that the two manufacturers will join forces to create a new model. Two versions were planned: a 4-cylinder (the 914-4) and a 6-cylinder (the 914-6), the 914-4 being entirely manufactured by Karmann, an independent German body builder.
The car presented here is a 914-4 wuth the 2.0 liters engine. It has been imported from Italy to Belgium. This car is an exact copy of the Porsche 914 that has been driven by B.Waldegard and B.Berglund at the Monte Carlo GT Rallye.
A regularity passport for Italy is available.
